Christmas can be a stressful time of year. In between traipsing around town hunting for Christmas gifts, wrapping presents (and having a breakdown when you can’t find the end of the Sellotape), digging the decorations out of the attic, putting up the tree, ordering the Christmas turkey, and visiting friends and family, it’s very easy to forget that Christmas is meant to be one of the most wonderful times of the year!

With just two days to go until the big day, if you haven’t already planned your Christmas Day menu and done the big food shop, you’d better get a move on. Luckily, there’s no need to fret as Spar has come up with a guide on how to make the perfect Christmas dinner, including a handy checklist for beginners.

Read on for all you need to know in order to dish up a Christmas dinner that will wow the whole family:

  1. I’m cooking Christmas dinner for the first time in years this year and one thing I’ve done have a practice ahead of time! I wanted to do this as I have had a new cooker but also to make sure everything would be just right.

I agree doing as much prep in advance as possible is the best way.

  2. I don’t like traditional christmas dinner, never have and never will. I do like turkey, not just all the other stuff that goes with it. This year i’m having a turkey with reggae reggae sauce and spicy rice. Merry christmas x

    • Enjoy! I also had a non-traditional Xmas dinner this year, as I was away in Portugal. I had salmon and swordfish for starter, followed by rack of lamb for main. Yummy.

  3. I have to admit I have never cooked Christmas dinner, I am far from a good cook and my Mum makes the best so we always head over there. x

    • Hehe, my mum taught me how to do roast dinners from a young age (think she wanted to stop me from nagging her for them all the time!)

  4. Amazing guide! We go out for Christmas dinner as my mam was a cook for years and didn’t want to cook Christmas Day. This is really good, though, for those who are doing it at home.

    • Glad you found it useful 🙂 I’ve never been out for Xmas dinner until this year; I was in Portugal, so we ate in a restaurant – was a refreshing change!

  5. I’m going to be honest I’ve never made Christmas dinner myself, I’ve been quite lucky that my family always do it x

  6. I normally make Christmas dinner but had the day off this year but I’m doing New Years Day instead. This is really useful for those that are making it though.
