Airport parking – rate it, or hate it? If you follow me on social media, you may be aware that I recently spent a week in Sunny Beach, Bulgaria. Normally when I go on holiday, I travel to the airport by coach, Mega Bus or train, but this time my boyfriend was very keen to drive us there and back instead, so we decided to use the airport parking at Bristol Airport.
Arriving at Bristol Airport at around 6.30am on a Saturday, the car park was immediately visible opposite the airport and we located the Short Stay car park in a matter of minutes.
The payment process was really simple and quick because we didn’t actually have to pay anything upon arrival – we simply took a ticket from the barrier as we drove in, and kept it to insert back into the machine when we left the car park after our holiday. This would save considerable time if you happened to be in a rush to catch your plane!
The short stay car park was relatively busy, but it didn’t take us long to find an empty parking space. After locking the car, it took us less than two minutes to reach the entrance to Bristol Airport, even though we were both carrying heavy suitcases. As there is a slope leading up to the airport from the car park, thankfully we didn’t have to lug our suitcases up any steps.
When we arrived back in Bristol Airport at around 2.30pm the following Saturday, after a fun-filled week in Sunny Beach, we were completely exhausted and couldn’t wait to get home.
Luckily, leaving the car park was a breeze. We inserted our original ticket into one of the many payment machines dotted around the car park and cleared our balance, then the ticket shot back out with the payment details printed across the front. Upon driving out of the car park, we inserted this into the ticket barrier and we were able to exit the car park straight away.
Airport parking in the Short Star car park at Bristol Airport costs from £1 for up to 20 minutes, to £28 for 12-24 hours. This can be booked in advance for stays of one or two days but if you’re planning on staying longer, just take a ticket from the entrance barrier and pay at the pay station before you leave. Dependent on the length of your stay, however, it is worth checking the tariffs for the Long Stay car park too, as you could save a considerable amount of money by parking here instead – and you can get a discount for booking in advance.
Do you use airport parking when you go on holiday, or do you prefer to travel to the airport by public transport?
Bristol Airport kindly provided me with complimentary airport parking in exchange for an honest review.
