The Rare Welsh Bit is a food and travel blog featuring restaurants, recipes, events, travel destinations, attractions, accommodation & more, from South Wales and beyond.
Back in 2010, I left Cardiff University with a BA degree in Journalism, Film and Media and an insatiable desire to write about food. With no desire to leave Cardiff for the bright lights of London, I struggled to find any kind of paid journalism work in Wales and I needed an outlet for my writing, so I decided to start blogging about the South Wales food and drink scene.
Fast forward to 2015 and The Rare Welsh Bit had grown to become a popular food blog in South Wales, enabling me to build my profile as a writer, meet lots of like-minded people and eat way too much food for my own good. Meanwhile, having spent three months in Jamaica the year before, I’d well and truly caught the travel bug and couldn’t wait to start writing about the different foods I’d eaten and the places I’d visited on my travels.
So I began posting about my travel experiences, as well as what I’d been eating, and I have since written about Jamaica, India, Italy and Portugal.
I hope you enjoy reading about my escapades just as much as I enjoy writing about them.
