Established in 2010, The Rare Welsh Bit is a multi-award winning Welsh food and travel blog written by myself (Kacie Morgan) focusing on food travel and sight-seeing, from Cardiff to the Caribbean. Think recipes, restaurants, independent producers, and top food travel destinations.

I’m based in Cardiff, Wales and I love working with Welsh food and travel brands. However, I also work with brands all over the world and I’m happiest when travelling by plate, in search of exotic new cuisines to explore. Hear what my clients have to say about working with me.

I’ve published 1,000+ blog posts during my 13 years of blogging. Here are some of my personal favourites:

Story

The early days: Welsh food and drink blog

13 years ago, I graduated from Cardiff University with a degree in journalism, and an insatiable hunger for food writing. With no desire to leave Cardiff for the bright lights of London, I struggled to find paid journalism work in Wales. I desperately needed to develop a writing portfolio, so I began blogging about the South Wales food and drink scene.

Fast forward to 2015 and The Rare Welsh Bit had grown to become a popular food blog, enabling me to build my profile as a writer and meet lots of like-minded food and travel enthusiasts. Meanwhile, after spending three months in Jamaica, I’d well and truly caught the travel bug.

As my passion for international cuisine flourished, I began moving away from blogging solely about my local food and drink scene here in Wales, and I started writing about the different foods I’d eaten on my travels too.

Today: Welsh food and travel blog

Since 2017, I’ve been lucky enough to call The Rare Welsh Bit my full-time job. To-date, I’ve been featured by the likes of BBC One; BBC Cymru Wales; BBC Radio Wales; Food 52; Metro; Mail on Sunday; Sainsbury’s Magazine; Co-op Food Mag; and Blogosphere Magazine.

As a Welsh food blogger, I’m very active in Wales. Recently, I judged the Welsh Street Food Awards for the second consecutive year.

However, I also love to travel in the name of food, and in search of exciting new cuisines to explore. To-date, my culinary escapades have taken me to European countries like Cyprus, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Germany and Bulgaria, alongside far-flung destinations like Grenada, Jamaica, India, Malaysia and Qatar.

Besides blogging…

A member of the Guild of Food Writers, I’ve previously written for the likes of Visit Wales, Sainsbury’s Magazine, Co-op Food Mag, The Sun, Cardiff Life, Around Town Wales magazines, and World Travel Market. View my writing portfolio here.

In addition, I work in partnership with Business Wales and the Welsh Government to deliver inspiring entrepreneurial talks to young people in educational settings across Wales, as part of the Big Ideas Wales Role Model scheme.

I’m also available for public speaking opportunities, having recently been invited to speak alongside the likes of the Hairy Bikers; and food and travel writer, Ghillie Basan at the Scottish Tourism Alliance and Scotland Food and Drink’s 2023 Power of Food Tourism conference in Glasgow, Scotland.
