Wondering what to get for that special someone on their birthday? Whether you’re buying for a friend or family member, a personalised birthday cake delivery from Bakerdays is a lovely way to show how much you care. What’s more, if you order a letterbox cake, it’ll fit through their postbox, so they’ll be in for a real surprise when they open it!
I celebrated my birthday last month and to mark the occasion, Bakerdays kindly sent me a personalised letterbox birthday cake of my very own.
At first, I was a little apprehensive about whether the cake would reach me in one piece. Is it really possible to send a cake through the post? Would it really fit through my letterbox? Wouldn’t it just fall apart when it hit my doormat? Luckily, my cake arrived through my letterbox in excellent condition. It measured just five inches in diameter and it had been carefully placed into a round cake tin and packed into a sturdy, made-to-measure cardboard box, cushioned on either side by air-filled plastic bags to stop it from moving around inside the box.
To remove the cake from the tin, you simply pull the paper tab and carefully ease it out of the box while holding the base.
As I love food and travel, my cake was personalised with food and travel-related imagery; from a globe, a jet plane and a passport, to a burger, a pizza and a stack of pancakes. I especially loved the city skyline that had been printed around the outer edge of the cake, featuring famous landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. Furthermore, I was delighted to discover that Bakerdays had spelt my name correctly in the greetings message printed at the top of the cake, as it’s quite an unusual name and it often causes confusion.
Fresh and tasty
As this was a letterbox birthday cake delivery service, I didn’t have particularly high hopes about how it would taste, so I was pleasantly surprised to discover a fluffy, moist vanilla sponge covered in a thick layer of sweet royal icing. A layer of raspberry jam secured the sponge to its cardboard base, preventing it from moving around as I cut into it.
Costs for birthday cake delivery
A 5″ personalised letterbox cake from Bakerdays currently costs £14.99, or £16.99 if you want chocolate chip or lemon drizzle. Considering you can get 3-4 generous servings out of this, I think it’s great value for money.
You can customise the cake right down from the photo or design to the name, message and flavour of the sponge, with gluten- and dairy-free options also available. If you can’t find a design you like, use the bespoke design service for a cake tailored to the recipient’s hobbies and interests.
If you’d prefer a bigger cake, opt for the 7″ diameter small cake, the 9″ diameter medium cake, or the 12″ diameter large cake. Alternatively, choose cupcakes instead for bite-sized portions to feed a crowd.
Bakerdays deliver throughout the UK and worldwide. To order, please visit the Bakerdays website. Enter the code RAREWELSHBIT15 to get 15% off your first order up until 31st July 2018.
