Top reasons to visit Minsk

Why Minsk? As the capital of Belarus, this vibrant city has a lot to offer eager explorers and there are lots of reasons to visit Minsk. When you want to see culture and history, Minsk can offer you just that. This modern city sports a wealth of monumental Stalinist architecture, but to see some of the best places the city has to offer, you have to venture down Independence Avenue. Admittedly, the 15km-long road could take some time to explore fully, but you have museums and theatres, among other attractions, to lure you in along the way.

Where to stay

Next, you need to know where you’re going to stay in Minsk. Ideally, you want to be quite central. Choose your hotel based on how close you will be to the attractions you want to visit; the Renaissance Minsk Hotel is a good bet! Ideally, you’ll be close to attractions on Independence Avenue, or Praspyekt Nyezalyezhnastsi as it’s titled – probably one of the top reasons to visit Minsk! That way, you can explore the local area without worrying too much about getting tired and venturing too far from your base.

What to see

You already know there are lots of attractions centred around Independence Avenue, but what should you actually see while you’re here? Well, there are plenty of stunning museums that you can take a wander around. First, there’s the Belarusian Great Patriotic War Museum, but there’s also the Belarusian National Arts Museum and the Belarusian National History Museum to stimulate your cultural and historical interests.

Where to explore

Minsk isn’t all about history and culture. In fact, when you’re here, you’ll get to take in a varied range of attractions. Take the Minsk Botanical Garden with its stunning plants and flowers, for example, or the Gorky Park, with its ice rink and open-air theatre. Not forgetting Minsk Zoo, home to a range of different animals and children’s educational experiences.

Where to eat

Finally, you’re also going to want to eat well when you’re in town. So, you’ll want to explore some of the best restaurants In Minsk. As someone who often travels with food in mind, sampling the local Belarusian cuisine would be one of my top reasons to visit Minsk. From Vasilki with its first-class Belarusian food, to The View with its high-end menu and – you’ve guessed it – impressive views, there’s a range of cuisines to discover in Minsk.

Yeah, I can see how that could be awkward for you. It’s a shame that there are still so many parts of the world where homophobia is the norm.
