Boasting year-round sunshine, low crime rates and pristine white sand beaches – not to mention tonnes of tasty tree-to-bar chocolate, it’s not surprising that the eastern Caribbean island of Grenada and its sister islands Carriacou and Petite Martinique are currently trending as global travel destinations. While you might think you’d need to save up a few grand or take out a credit card to finance your Grenadian getaway, this needn’t be the case Although luxury resorts are bountiful, it’s entirely possible find Grenada hotels to suit all budgets. Take Seabreeze Hotel Grenada, for example.
Seabreeze Hotel Grenada
Perched at the top of a slope overlooking a tennis and basketball court sitting directly in front of Grenada’s award-winning Grand Anse Beach in St. George’s, Seabreeze Hotel offers rooms from as little as $50 per night excluding taxes – that’s less than £39! The rates are the same even during special events like Grenada Chocolate Festival and the Spicemas Carnival, making Seabreeze Hotel Grenada a popular choice of accommodation for attending tourists.
A range of rooms
Newly renovated for 2018, the sixteen rooms feature air conditioning, WiFi, refrigerators, kettles, toasters and microwaves, while some rooms also feature cookers, providing a self-catering option. Should you require the use of an iron and ironing board, or perhaps a hairdryer, you can loan both from reception. All of the rooms are spotlessly clean and there is a daily maid service.
Although the $50/night Backpacker Room doesn’t have air conditioning, it does have a fan and all the essentials you’ll need for your stay. If you’re happy to fork out a little more, you can book a studio lux with pantry ($95), studio lux with kitchen ($100), pool-side studio with pantry ($110), or the top floor two-bedroom apartment with kitchen ($200). My Studio Lux room had everything I needed for my stay and it was conveniently located on the ground floor, near to the pool.
While none of the rooms offer anywhere near to the same level of luxury as the private resorts that line Grand Anse Beach, and admittedly the hot water supply and WiFi are a little temperamental at times, Seabreeze Hotel Grenada is the ideal base for a comfortable and affordable stay, with all the basic essentials covered.
This budget-friendly boutique hotel even has its very own swimming pool, and on a sweltering hot day, the sparkling water looks so inviting against the backdrop of the eye-popping pink and aqua blue hotel front. An Instagram shot just waiting to happen.
Meanwhile, at the rear of the hotel, there is a comfy living space with a kitchen, dining table and a BBQ. Although the hotel doesn’t offer breakfast, you can help yourself to coffee and the nearby shops stock a range of fresh fruit, cereals and pastries ideal for a DIY breakfast buffet.
Minutes from Grand Anse Beach
Undoubtedly, Seabreeze’s proximity to Grand Anse Beach is one of its biggest selling points. One of the top ten beaches in the world, Grand Anse Beach consists of two miles of unspoilt ivory sand and shimmering turquoise sea. You’ll struggle to find anywhere else as cheap as this anywhere near Grand Anse Beach, Simply cross the road and follow the path, and you’ll reach the beach within less than three minutes.
The best time to visit is early evening, around 5-6pm. Buy a Grenadian Stag beer from one of the beach bars, lay your beach towel down on the sand and get yourself comfy, just in time to watch the kind of sunset that’ll leave you with an overwhelming sense of awe, and have the hairs on the back of your neck standing on end.
What to do during your stay
If you’re a watersports fan, hire a snorkel kit or paddleboard from Seabreeze and set your inner water baby free in the comfortingly cool waters of the Caribbean Sea.The hotel is also located opposite a bus stop, so if you’re keen to explore the island and don’t have your own means of transport, consider catching the bus. If you’d prefer to take a guided tour, excursions to Grenada’s top attractions can be arranged at reception.
