When will the world develop a hunger for Welsh food? My column for WalesOnline

Today, the South Wales Echo published my guest column about how Cardiff ’s food scene is pretty much exploding, yet Wales is still largely unheard of in the wider world; least of all for its food. If you don’t have a copy of the newspaper, you can find the article on WalesOnline here:

When will the world develop a hunger for Welsh food?

It’s so strange how overlooked Wales is. It’s a whole country attached to England yet most English people have never visited it. I agree that Welsh lamb is delicious and may be the item to raise awareness of the fact Wales exists and is a beautiful country in uts own right

    • October 22, 2015 / 7:26 pm

I agree Tori, Welsh lamb is as good as it gets! Although I know there has been a lot of work going on to promote Welsh pork lately too.

Love this. Being half welsh with most of my living family in Wales I can’t help but be passionate about all things Welsh! Great article!

    • October 22, 2015 / 7:56 pm

Thanks, I know the feeling 🙂 I’m very proud to be Welsh.

Great article!!! I love welsh cakes but I don’t think I’d have heard of them or noticed them in Tesco’s if someone welsh hadn’t pointed them out to me..

    • October 22, 2015 / 7:24 pm

I love Welsh cakes too, especially when they’re still slightly warm… mmm!

  9. October 22, 2015 / 10:32 am

Welsh lamb is amazing but you are right, welsh food is totally overlooked x

    • October 22, 2015 / 7:52 pm

I agree Rachel. Welsh lamb definitely has that edge when it comes to taste.

Considering I live just a few miles from the Anglo-Welsh border I can’t really think of any Welsh food. I’ll go share your Wales online post now.

I enjoyed reading your article and it reminded me of how fast things are changing. I’ve never thought of Pontypridd as a place to get good, quality food, but it has been a few years since I was there. Sounds as though a re-visit is in order

    • October 28, 2015 / 8:18 pm

I know what you mean 🙂 I haven’t been to Pontypridd since I was a child, used to love visiting the swimming pool at Ynysangharad Park – that’s gone now!

How exciting to have a column! Off to read it now. x

Well done. Unfortunately I’m rather ignorant of all Welsh things in general, though I do have a fantastic (and heavy) traditional Welsh blanket on my bed.

    • October 28, 2015 / 8:11 pm

hehe, well that’s something. I think a lot of people are ignorant about Wales because that’s the way it’s always kinda been… people aren’t told enough good things about our country to make them think otherwise.

Good article. Well done for raising awareness. Interestingly, I was up in North Wales recently and was really impressed by the quality of the food outlasts we visited. Cornwall is known as a food destination, but there seemed a lot more interesting places up there than down here.

    • October 28, 2015 / 8:10 pm

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the read. I have never been to Cornwall but I’d love to visit some day, I bet there is some delicious food to be had there!

Your blog always reminds me how ‘hungry’ I am and makes me wanna eat right now! 😀

I voted for you! Good luck!
