Travelling on a long-term basis can make for a relaxing, wholesome experience. Away from the distractions of everyday home life, you can relax and focus fully on work or, depending on the reason for your trip, simply just having a good time.
While travelling for a few months or more can be fun, however, it can be easy to forget about essential life admin while you’re away. So, with spring upon us (although it doesn’t feel like it in the UK at the moment!), here are three ways to spring clean your life while travelling.

Take out life insurance
The chances are, you probably already have different kinds of insurance policies in place to cover your car, your travel, your medical costs or even your pets. However, you may not yet have considered taking out life insurance. Taking out life insurance for funeral expenses and other costs could help your next of kin plan a beautiful memorial service and wake in the unfortunate event that you were to pass away suddenly, as well as offering financial settlements to cover outstanding mortgage costs and other debts, and pay-outs in the event that you can’t work due to accident or illness, for example.
While you’re away from home, it’s worth spending time looking for a policy suitable for you. Just bear in mind that it’ll need to cover you in whichever destination you’re currently based in, as well as your home address.
Try to walk more
Whether you’re at home or on holiday, you can always reap the health benefits of spending more time being active while travelling. This doesn’t necessarily mean finding time in your busy schedule to go to he gym or run around the block – unless you want to, that is. Instead, look for quick, easy and affordable ways to build exercise into your lifestyle. Consider taking public transport or walking to work instead of driving, for example. Simply aiming to walk around 5 miles – or 10,000 steps – each day, could be all it takes to keep your heart healthy. You may also find that this impacts positively on your energy levels, including the quality of your sleep. Plus, no doubt you’ll save money that would otherwise been spent on fuel or tickets for travelling, too.
Eat a balanced diet
We’d all love an extra dose of energy to get us through the day without feeling sluggish or drained come mid-afternoon. Whether you’re working hard on your laptop or relaxing on the beach after a long shift, having plenty of energy always helps.
By eating a more balanced diet, you’ll look and feel a whole lot better. For example, simply adding a decen amount of oily fish to your diet can help you to consume more Omega-3, aiding heart health and reducing the likelihood of strokes. Again, you might find yourself saving money by eating healthier too, especially when you factor in the cost of cooking your own meals vs. ordering takeaway, or eating out at a restaurant.
While carrying out life admin, exercising and dieting might be the last things on your mind while travelling, it will help you to ensure you feel your best at all times. While no one likes to limit themselves too much while we’re in an exciting new destination, we should try not to go too overboard when travelling for long periods of time. Balance is key!
