We all deserve to look and feel our best, even when we’re travelling away from home. For many of us, however, living the high life while travelling feels beyond our means. Just because leading a luxury lifestyle might mean we have to cut back on other aspects of our stay, though, this doesn’t mean we can’t occasionally treat ourselves to a little indulgence now and then. As such, here are my five top tips for treating yourself to a little luxury, whether you’re at home or on the road – because you shouldn’t need to win the Powerball lottery or come into a massive windfall just to enjoy life, if you ask me!

We all work exceptionally hard these days – and with this in mind, it’s crucial you give yourself some time off too. What better way to relax, put your feet up, and really make the most of the time to yourself, than by indulging in a little luxury?

Luxury doesn’t necessarily have to mean ‘expensive,’ although this is a common and understandable misconception. Check out these tips to find out how to treat yourself without breaking the bank…

Light some scented candles

If you’re looking to treat yourself to a little luxury but don’t want the expense that comes with making a grand gesture or event, why not plan an evening indoors just to yourself with your favourite scented candles and chill out music? Whether you’re in the UK or travelling abroad, are so many different types of scented candles on the market these days, and they can make for a relatively inexpensive way to treat yourself to a little luxury.

As the candle wax melts, exotic fragrances are released into your home, helping to whisk you away to a world of bliss and refinement. You could even opt for a scent that reminds you of your favourite travel destination; spices like nutmeg and cinnamon always remind me of my stay in Grenada – the so-called Spice Island.

Have a spa day

Nothing is quite as indulgent or relaxing than a spa day, with professional therapists are on hand to cater to your every need and whim. It may not be the cheapest day out you can have, either at home or away, but once in a while, a spa day can be just what we need to feel our best, no matter what life may have thrown our way. Plus, as an additional benefit, you can usually tailor your spa package to include as many or as few services as you’d like.

If you’ll be visiting parts of south east Asia, like Malysia and Thailand, you may find spa prices to be far more reasonable than they are back at home. However, always check the costs in advance; luxury hotels will charge more than independent local spas.

If your budget won’t quite stretch to a spa day, bring the spa to your home instead with scented candles, oil burners, relaxing music and a face mask.

Treat yourself to a pampering session

This will of course be of much less relevance for any guys reading along today (although, please don’t feel you can’t if you’d like to give it a try!), treating yourself to a professional hair styling and make-up session can make for a transformative pampering experience.

Whether it’s for a special occasion or simply because you want to feel great, professional hair and makeup will usually cost around £50-£100, depending on where you are and which treatments or services you’ve opted for.

Indulge in fine dining

Fine dining is one of the epitomes of luxury living, but what many people don’t realise, is that you don’t necessarily need to head to a high-end restaurant to experience it.

Of course, if you enjoy dining out and you like spending money on eating good food, feel free to book yourselves into the best local restaurants you can find.

If you’d prefer to keep the budget a little more manageable, however, cooking your own gourmet meal from scrach and taking the time to create a welcoming table setting with candles, napkins and elegant cutlery is a wonderful way to indulge in quality food, without leaving the comfort of your own home.

Plus, if you’ll be inviting guests over for dinner, no doubt they’ll be impressed with the level of effort you’ve gone to for them.

Enjoy some time away

Even if you’re a frequent traveller, treating yourself to a holiday in the countryside or in another remote location could really help you to take some time out for yourself.

So, why not treat yourself to a night or two at a luxury hotel or B&B with the help of a luxury travel expert – it doesn’t need to be a long trip; sometimes, a short city break is all you need to recharge your batteries, although by all means, stay for longer if you like.

So, these are my favourite ways to take some time out for myself.
