This weekend, I was lucky enough to be invited to the five-star Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales for afternoon tea with a guest.
I visited the resort for lunch last year with friends (here’s my review of Celtic Manor’s Terry M restaurant) and it was one of the best restaurant reviews I’ve ever done, so I couldn’t wait to experience the afternoon tea.
The Celtic Manor offers several different afternoon tea experiences but my friend Sarah and I opted for the Vintage Afternoon Tea. Served in the historic Manor House, the Vintage Afternoon Tea is only available on Sundays, from 1.00pm – 4.00pm (£28 per person), up until 15th September 2015.

The table was elegantly laid with dainty china tea cups, silver cutlery and floral napkin holders.

To begin, we were each given a glass of rose hip lemonade – although we chose to indulge in a glass of champagne as well (£10.50 each)!
Finished with fresh mint, the rose hip lemonade had a sweet, rose flavour with a subtle hint of lemon – very refreshing indeed!
This was served with four mini traditional Welsh cakes, still hot from the oven and sprinkled with sugar.
Our waiter then provided us with a selection of tea leaves to choose from, before brewing a teapot for us. I went for Earl Grey, while Sarah opted for fresh coffee (in anticipation of the drive home after all of the food we were about to eat!)

The finger sandwich selection included:
- Hilltop honey roasted ham with grain mustard
- Smoked salmon with cream cheese and chives
- Cucumber with lemon and mint mayonnaise
- Hafod Welsh cheddar and pickle
- Egg mayonnaise with cress on brioche
- Leek and Snowdonia Red Devil cheese tartlet
Like eating cucumber and tzatziki sandwiches – unusual, yet very enjoyable!

I honestly haven’t tasted salmon this fresh in a long time. It had a delicious, smoky taste – I could’ve done with another one of these!

Meanwhile, the cake and pastry selection consisted of:
- Traditional Victoria sponge
- Chocolate truffle roulade
- Fruit tartlet
- Mocha eclair
- Apple and blackberry puff

The food looks so good! I love going for afternoon tea and Celtic manor looks amazing. It’s pretty inexpensive too which is always good. Xx
