With prospects of international travel clouded by the constantly changing ‘traffic light’ system, extortionate test costs and calls for vaccine passports, holidaying at home in the UK seems like a much wiser option for couples this year.
What’s more, if there’s one thing the last year or so has shown us Brits, it’s that we’re actually blessed with a fantastic range of things to do and see, not to mention wonderful places to stay, right here on our doorstep.
If recent months have left you feeling stressed out and in need of a romantic getaway with your significant other, why not escape to a spa hotel or resort for some much-needed R&R?

5 romantic UK spas for 2-night spa breaks for couples
Without further ado, here are some of the UK’s most popular romantic spas for two night spa breaks for couples…
Titanic Spa – Huddersfield, West Yorkshire
Nestled among the rolling hills of the Pennines in Huddersfield, west Yorkshire, the Titanic Spa is a multi award-winning destination spa and the UK’s first eco spa, with sustainability at its heart.
Based within what was once a 20th Century Edwardian textile mill, the spa boasts its very own original water source in the form of a borehole found 200m below the spa. This is used to provide fresh drinking water and bathing water for the plunge pool, salt pool, showers and ice experience.
The state-of-the-art spa also offers onsite accommodation in the form of apartment-style blocks. So, whether you’re looking for an overnight stay, a weekend break or a longer visit, you’ve come to the right place.
Highlights include the Titanic Heat and Ice Experience, relaxation lounge, gym and indoor swimming pool, outdoor hot tub and designated treatment room.
As far as spa breaks west Yorkshire go, you can’t go far wrong with Titanic Spa. Currently, their 2-night retreat option includes a luxury apartment stay, spa access, two complimentary treatments, one-course light lunch and two-course evening meal. Now, wouldn’t that make for a wonderful weekend with your better half?

The Gleneagles Hotel – Auchterarder, Perth and Kinross, Scotland
Described as”possibly the best [spa] in Scotland” by The Telegraph, The Gleneagles Hotel’s Resident Spa offers a variety of indulgent beauty treatments using Gleneagles’ blend of natural botanicals from rural Perthshire. If you won’t be staying overnight at the hotel, you’ll still be able to take advantage of the Day Spa.
With 20 treatment rooms, a sauna, steam room, vitality pool, relaxation yard and cafe, a spa break at Gleneagles is the perfect opportunity to nurture your mind, body and soul.
The luxury hotel is based on a 850-acre estate complete with its own golf course, six restaurants (serving family food through to fine dining) and five bars.
The Merchant Hotel – Belfast, Northern Ireland
If my 2018 trip to The Merchant for cocktails with Munchies and Munchkins was anything to go by, the spa at this swanky Belfast hotel is destined to be just as spectacular.
Perched on the roof of the hotel, the spa is open to both day guests and residents and also features a state-of-the-art gym. Highlights include a hydrotherapy pool, ice fountain, thermal lounger, rock sauna, steam room, hot tub and, of course, panoramic views sweeping across Belfast city centre.
Book a day visit to The Merchant Hotel’s spa or check-in for an overnight stay to remember; the choice is yours. Whatever you decide, make sure you try out the cocktails while you’re there – trust me, you won’t be disappointed!
Celtic Manor Resort – near Newport, South Wales
Nestled in the Coldra Woods near Newport, south Wales, the five-star Celtic Manor Resort boasts not one, but two award-winning spas.
With its dreamy skyscape ceiling twinkling with stars, the award-winning Forum Spa at the Celtic Manor Resort just might be one of the most romantic spas in Wales.
At present, Ocius Treatment Rooms are currently closed due to the pandemic restrictions, although a range of spa and beauty treatments are still available.
While staying at the spa, take your pick from one of the Resort’s four luxury hotels. When it comes to dining out, you’ll be spoilt for choice, with seven on-site restaurants serving a variety of cuisines, from traditional Welsh fare to pan-Asian fusion food – not to mention several tempting afternoon tea options!
The Celtic Manor Resort offers a selection of romantic breaks for couples for overnight stays, although spa treatments are not included in the cost of your stay. The Couples Signature Massage (currently priced at £175) could make for the ideal add-on to purchase while making your booking, though.

Spa Village Bath at The Gainsborough Bath Spa – Bath, Somerset
Set beneath a glass atrium located within the only hotel in the UK to have access to natural thermal waters, Spa Village Bath needs no real introduction.
The spa embraces the healing traditions local to the surrounding region, while also drawing upon signature therapies used by original Spa Villages in Malaysia.
Alongside natural thermal pools, guests can unwind in the sauna, steam room, an ice alcove and relaxation areas.
At present, Spa Village Bath is only open to hotel residents.
