With the cost of living soaring, many of us are opting for a UK staycation instead of jetting off abroad for our summer holiday this year. It’s no surprise UK caravan holidays rocketed during the pandemic, when international travel was limited. However, this rising trend looks set to continue throughout 2023, an beyond. In Britain alone, the number of people considering a caravan touring holiday grew by 20% in the two years to April 2022, with the number owning a caravan or leisure vehicle set to grow by over 40% by 2030 (according to the Caravan and Motorhome Club).
With thousands of reputable UK caravan sites to choose from, the question of where to stay will largely depend on what you look for in a caravan holiday, how much you’re willing to spend, and how far you’re willing to travel. If you own your own caravan, this may be less of an issue for you, however (although having a sound caravan insurance policy in place before you go away is a must!)
If you’re looking for a relaxing family getaway that won’t break the bank, caravan holidays in Wales could be right up your street. With 35 beautiful Blue Flag beaches, three scenic National Parks, and hundreds of quaint seaside towns to explore, Wales provides the perfect base for an unforgettable caravan holiday in the great outdoors.

There are hundreds of campsites offering caravan holidays in Wales. Here are my top picks to consider as a starting point.

Where to go for the best caravan holidays in Wales
Trecco Bay Holiday Park – Porthcawl, Bridgend (south Wales)
While Porthcawl isn’t my first choice of destination for a UK caravan holiday, Trecco Bay Holiday Park holds enormous sentimental value for me. When I was a child, I spent many family holidays here. My family weren’t overly wealthy, but this was an affordable holiday for us; it was far enough from home for it to feel like we were going away, without needing to spend hours couped up in the car to get there.
Today, Trecco Bay is one of the UK’s biggest holiday parks. Run by Park Dean Resorts, this popular family caravan park boasts a Blue Flag beach, an indoor pool, a lively entertainment programme, and site-wide WiFi, alongside a choice of accommodation in two, three and four-bedroom caravans, and luxury lodges. Pet-friendly and wheelchair-accessible options are also available.
Manorbier Country Park – Tenby, Pembrokeshire (south-west Wales)
Struggling to choose between a rural retreat, or a seaside stay? At Manorbier Country Park, you can enjoy the best of both worlds.
Based within ten acres of parkland, this five-star caravan park is just five miles from the charming coastal town of Tenby in Pembrokeshire, south-west Wales. One of the top destinations in Wales to visit during the summer, Tenby is best known for its colourful harbour and neighbouring Harbour Beach (although Castle Beach, North Beach and South Beach are also worth a visit!); in addition to holy Caldey Island, run by a community of Cistercian monks.
Staying at Manorbier Country Park, you’ll be able to make the most of family-friendly facilities like an indoor heated pool, an on-site restaurant with daily-changing menus, and a full programme of entertainment for all ages. And, if you like to keep fit on holiday, you’ll be pleased to hear there’s a fully equipped gym, tennis court, and even a relaxing sauna to soothe tired muscles. If you’ll be travelling with pets, please contact the park before booking.
Woodlands Caravan Park – Aberystwyth, Ceredigion (mid Wales)
The largest town in Ceredigion, mid Wales, Aberystwyth offers the nostalgic charm of a traditional seaside stay paired with a city-like, cosmopolitan feel. The town is home to one of Wales’ largest universities, as well as several historical and cultural attractions. If you’re thinking of touring the 180-mile Coastal Way along the length of the Cardigan Bay coastline, Aberystwyth makes for a great base.
Based next to a peaceful 400-acre farm offering scenic walking routes, Woodlands Caravan Park lies around 12 miles inland from Aberystwyth, in the tiny village of Devil’s Bridge, perched high up in the Rheidol Valley. The village is named after the Three Bridges which cross the River Mynach on the village’s edge, perhaps best known for the world-famous 300ft Devil’s Bridge Falls.
Take your pick from a choice of static caravans, self-catering bungalows, or quirky domed-roof ‘gypsy pods’ or, if you’ll be travelling in your own caravan, just book a camping or touring pitch instead. Pets are welcome too.
Barmouth Bay Holiday Park – Tal-y-Bont,
If you’re keen to book a caravan holiday in the picturesque Snowdonia (or “Eryri”) National Park, Barmouth Bay Holiday Park often comes up trumps. Located on the west coast of Wales, Barmouth Bay merges mountain and coastal environments, with a beautiful beach on its doorstep.
Owned by Away Resorts, this award-winning family caravan park offers direct access to Tal-y-Bont beach (known locally as Bennar Beach), an indoor heated pool, a children’s playground, outdoor sports facilities, seasonal entertainment programme, and a unique outdoors cinema experience. Choose from luxury “exclusive”, or affordable “classic” accommodation. If you really enjoy your stay, you can even explore ownership options. Dog-friendly options are also available.
