While holidaying with family might seem like a fun idea, it’s surprising just how much work you need to put in to planning the perfect family holiday.
It can be challenging to decide where you want to go and what you might want to do, which will depend not only on the personal passions and interests of your family, but also on how much money you have available to spend.

What does everyone like doing?
Making a list of the things that everyone likes doing, as well as the group activities that you enjoy taking part in together on a regular basis, is a good place to start. By figuring what kinds of common interests and hobbies you all share, hopefully you’ll find it easier to identify the best activities to get involved in, and the best places to visit, whether that be embarking on challenging hikes, visiting museums and other historical places, or simply just relaxing at the beach.
Where would you love to go?
Another good way to choose your dream family holiday destination is to create a list of the locations and destinations that have been on your bucket list for as long as you can remember, whether that be top holiday destinations in France, or unique, one-of-a-kind adventure holidays in far-flung places.
What food do you like to eat?
Points should be awarded to areas that feature a variety of dining options, a wide range of activities and sports and, of course, dreamy landscapes.
What’s your budget?
Obviously, you’ll end up eliminating some locations from your list based on your available budget, the length of the flight, the number of flights that are available, and so on.
Even though you might not be able to please everyone at all times, by considering everyone’s wants and need, you should be able to enjoy a fulfilling holiday together.
When planning any kind of trip, it’s important to consider the time of year because the associated costs of visiting that destination, along with the climate, and the number of people travelling at any one time, can vary greatly from one area to the next, dependent on season. Due to the fact that summer is peak season in many locations and most children are off school for several weeks during the summer months, many families choose to take vacations during this time of year.
Of course, if you’re not able to go on holiday during the summer for whatever reason, there are lots of fun family holidays available during the spring, autumn and winter months too.
While the overall purpose of your family holiday should be to have fun spending time together, don’t feel guilty about branching out on your own or with your partner every now and then too.
If you have more than one child, you might want to consider giving your older children (dependent on their age and maturity level) the opportunity to take part in an activity that interests them, while the rest of the family takes it easy and does something that they can enjoy too.
Alternatively, if your children are younger, you could consider placing them in the resort creche for a few hours. Who knows, perhaps they will even meet a few new play buddies while you’re out enjoying a romantic meal for two!
