For some people, the prospect of travel is one of the most exciting feelings in the world. When you’re full of wanderlust, all you can think about is getting out there, seeing the world, meeting new people, and enjoying new experiences. It can be both all-consuming and exhausting. But, you can turn the energy your passion for travel brings into productive planning. If you’re itching to get out there and get more out of travelling, then you might want to start planning your travels like a pro. Here are a few easy-to-follow tips to set you off on the right track:
Start a bucket list
The first thing you need to do is to write a travel bucket list. Every professional traveller has one. At the moment, your mind might be racing with all the places you’d like to see, and where you’d like to go. But how can you get there without some sort of structure? To make your plans easier, write everything down. The places you want to go, the sights you want to see, the experiences you want to have – all of it. By writing everything down, you can then start to set your travelling wheels in motion. Do your research
Once you’ve got a rough idea of where you want to go and what you want to do, you need to start doing some research. Yes, you might know that you want to eat the best pasta in Italy – but where will that take you? Is it just one place? It’s time to find out. You can discover a lot about different countries and cultures, where to stay and what to see, just by researching online and using websites that offer detailed information on different destinations, like Into The Blue Cruise magazine. Make sure you cover off destinations, but also look at different reviews and what to do while you’re there.
Shop around
At this point, you should have a good idea about the specifics of your travels. So, you’re going to want to start thinking about booking things up. However, before you jump right in and book the first cheap flight or all-inclusive deal you can find , make sure you shop around. Not only do you want to make sure that you get the right places, but you also want to make sure that you’ve found the perfect hotels, transports, and experiences too.
Plan out of season trips
Before you click that ‘book’ button, consider which times of the year you’d prefer to visit. Back to the idea of Italy and pasta – sure, you want to get there as soon as possible, but do you really want to be fighting the crowds to get to the pasta? Is there a time of year that you can go that will allow you to experience authentic Italian life instead? You won’t know until you look! I spent last Christmas in Lagos, Algarve with my best friend and because it was out of season, we had the hotel pool and nearby beach pretty much all to ourselves!
Stick to your schedule
After you’ve put so much effort into planning the perfect trip, it’s worth sticking to a schedule to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the things you want to do, or the places you want to see. I normally use an online trip planner to put together an itinerary that includes all the destinations and activities on my bucket list. Don’t be afraid to venture off schedule if you discover something else you’d love to experience during your trip; just try not to get distracted too often, or you might not have enough time to do all the things that really attracted you to a particular place.
