I first visited Californian burrito and taco bar, Tortilla on Cardiff’s Caroline Street (a.k.a. ‘Chippy Alley’) back in November of last year, around two months after it first opened (to read more about the restaurant background, please see my earlier blog post on Tortilla) and I’ve been back once since then already.

The menu offers a choice of burritos or tacos, with chicken quesadilla and nachos quesos (both priced at £5) also available after 3pm. As I’ve ordered a burrito on both occasions that I’ve visited Tortilla previously, I decided to try out the nachos this time.
An awe-inspiring mountain of tortilla chips was piled high with fresh guacamole, pico de gallo salsa, jalapeno peppers, American-style nacho cheese sauce and sour cream and chunks of smoky, grilled chicken (£1.50+ to add chicken or meat). I can honestly say that these were the best nachos I have tasted in a long time, firmly cementing Tortilla as my new go-to for any imminent nacho cravings. All the toppings were bursting with flavour and the American-style nacho cheese sauce was a real bonus. This made for a very filling main meal, and at just £6.50, the value for money is superb.
My guest opted for the grilled steak tacos stuffed with plenty of meat, salsa, cheese, sour cream, iceberg lettuce and tomatoes, served in soft flour tortillas. The standard serving size includes three tacos, but my friend wasn’t feeling that hungry so she only wanted to have two. These looked pretty good and if it wasn’t for my new-found love of Tortilla’s nachos, I wouldn’t hesitate to try out the tacos on my next visit.
To drink, I quaffed a bottle of Corona with fresh lime (£3.95) and my guest sipped on a Margarita cocktail (£4.50), poured from Tortilla’s nifty Slush Puppy-style Margarita machine.
My third visit to Tortilla has been my best yet – I still can’t stop thinking about those nachos! For my first taste of Californian cuisine, it hasn’t been too bad at all!

I was invited to Tortilla as a guest and our food and drinks were provided complimentary; however, I was not obliged to write a positive review.
