Is watermelon and strawberries a good combination?

Originally developed for B&M Stores back in 2020, my watermelon strawberry smoothie never gets old. With its high water content and natural sweetness, watermelon is the perfect base for a thirst-quenching smoothie. Not only is it incredibly hydrating, but it’s also low in calories, and bursting with vitamins and antioxidants. Strawberries bring a delightful tartness to a classic watermelon smoothie, while adding a pleasant vibrant red tinge to the glass.

What are the benefits of watermelon and strawberry juice?

Watermelon and strawberry juice offers numerous health benefits. Watermelon is highly hydrating due to its water content, while also being rich in vitamins A, C, and B6. It also contains antioxidants like lycopene, which can help reduce inflammation and improve heart health.

Similarly, strawberries are packed with vitamins – particularly vitamin C – and provide essential nutrients like folate and potassium. They’re also rich in antioxidants and fibre, which can support immune function and digestive health. Combining these fruits in a juice can enhance hydration, provide a burst of energy, and deliver a range of nutrients that support overall well-being.

  • 200 g fresh strawberries
  • 1 tsp freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 sprig fresh mint

Instructions

  • Hull and halve the strawberries and add them to a blender.
  • Add the watermelon, lime juice and honey and pulse until combined. Aim for a smooth consistency that’s neither too thick nor too runny. Don’t overdo it – it only takes around 10 seconds in a NutriBullet, but it could take a little longer in regular blenders.
  • Pour the smoothie mixture into the glasses or baby watermelon, decorate with fresh mint leaves and add straws. Enjoy!

Notes

• If serving your smoothie inside a baby watermelon, you can scoop out the flesh (an ice cream scoop is handy for this), weigh out 300g and refrigerate the remaining watermelon; if not, just use 300g of prepared or freshly cut chunks).
• This recipe makes two 200ml glasses, which is also enough to fill a baby watermelon for an exotic sharing smoothie or simply a larger single serving.
