Although we all enjoy treating ourselves to a fancy meal-out for date night, dining in often makes for a more memorable experience. It can be cosier and quieter, you’ll never feel rushed to finish eating and, above all, you don’t need to fork out a fortune on gourmet food. Even if you aren’t a seasoned cook or professional chef, you can create unforgettable meals from the comfort of your own kitchen.
Here are three romantic meals you can make to impress your partner at home, without any real culinary skill or experience.

Wagyu beef
Orignating from Japan, wagyū beef is known for its exceptional quality. The attentive care with which these cows have been raised results in a highly marbled cut of meat, distinguished by its unique flavour and texture.
While Wagyu beef is undoubtedly expensive, a small portion can go a long way, making it an excellent choice to celebrate a special occasion. What’s more, as wagyū beef is so versatile, it’s suitable not only as a steak, but for dishes like hearty beef stews, or even beef tartare.
You don’t need any particular cookery skills to impress when you go with Wagyu steak for a special date night in. To fully appreciate its rich flavour, however, aim to prepare it with minimal fuss; simply season with salt and pepper and sear to perfection.
Homemade pasta
Making your own handmade pasta “from scratch” is bound to impress your dinner date. And, contrary to what you might think, it’s not actually all that hard to do, either – as long as you have a pasta machine to roll out and cut the dough.
Not only does fresh pasta taste far better than shop-bought varieties, but Involving your date in the process can make for a unique date activity.
The key to making pasta is patience, and the willingness to experiment with different techniques. With practice, you can quickly become adept at it. The best part is that, even if you don’t end up making any overly fancy shapes or produce perfectly formed pasta ribbons, when you pair your pasta with the right sauce (my pumpkin and sage pasta sauce goes particularly well with fusilli), the imperfections will barely be noticed.

Homemade sushi
The advantage of making sushi at home lies in the freshness and quality of the ingredients. You can choose your preferred fillings – be it fish, meat, and/or vegetables – in addition to experimenting with different flavour combinations. Plus, making sushi with your date could make for a fun way to spend an hour or so together.
To make your own sushi, all you need is sushi rice, seaweed sheets, and your chosen fillings. You may also find a sushi rolling mat helpful to have to hand, when it comes to rolling up your sushi. If you or your date don’t like fish or feel wary about eating raw fish at home, fill the rolls with fresh meat, chicken, prawns, fish or tofu instead.
