With most Brits staycationing at home in the UK this year in the face of constantly changing travel restrictions, your holiday packing list might look a little different to usual this year.
While we might cram our suitcases with sleeveless tops, shorts and skimpy bikinis for a sun-soaked fortnight in the Med, holidaying at home in the UK calls for a different kind of wardrobe altogether. After all, the British climate is almost worlds apart from many destinations throughout Europe and the rest of the world; it doesn’t get quite as hot here, it can be very wet and windy and you can always rely on the UK weather to surprise you!
With this in mind, it pays to pack for all seasons when heading off on a UK staycation. To minimise your luggage, aim to choose a few key items of clothing that you can mix and match with different outfits – and whatever you plan on wearing, don’t forget to pack a lightweight waterproof jacket and a decent umbrella!
What to wear on holiday in the UK
Comfy loungewear
The very first thing to think about when planning your UK staycation outfits, is what you’ll be wearing to travel to and from your chosen destination in.
Whether I’m off to catch a long-haul flight or simply heading off on a short UK weekend getaway or road trip, I swear by travelling in comfy clothing. Your favourite tracksuit or jogging bottoms will be ideal, although I also like to throw on an oversized T-shirt over a pair of leggings from time-to-time too.
You could treat yourself to a trendy new loungewear set for travelling in. Whether you opt for a set with a personalised print or design, or a set in your favourite colour – like this gorgeous khaki green set from Femmeluxe – or perhaps just keep it simple with versatile grey loungewear, this will always be a worthwhile investment, as your loungewear can double up as gym wear once you’re back from your trip.

Striking co-ord sets
I loved wearing co-ord sets back in the ’90s, so I’m thrilled to see that they’re now back in fashion.
Co-ord sets come in many different styles and colours, but a crop or midi top with matching trousers is a popular option. This style of co-ord set can work wonders in terms of elongating your legs and drawing attention towards your top half and away from your waist.
What’s more, dependent on the co-ord set you choose, you’ll probably find it pretty easy to dress your outfit up – or down – to suit the occasion. Just by adding a few carefully chosen accessories like some shiny hoop earrings or a classy over-the-shoulder bag, a single co-ord set could see you through from day to night, ensuring you stay looking stylish without taking up too much space in your suitcase.

Floaty tops
Light, fluttery tops are a must for summer, even if you don’t plan on leaving the UK.
Cotton or linen shorts and blouses are popular outfit options among UK holiday-goers but if you’re reluctant to compromise on style, consider adding a milkmaid top to your wardrobe.
With square necklines and puffy sleeves, milkmaid tops can create an elegant, feminine look. Team it with a pretty floral skirt for a cute country chic look that’s perfect for picnic dates or days at the beach, or jazz it up with jewellery and a pair of skinny jeans if you’ll be going out for cocktails after dinner.

Figure-hugging dresses
While I wouldn’t normally recommend wearing a tight-fitting dress on a UK summer staycation – and I certainly wouldn’t advise you to wear one on a hot, sticky day – a snug-fitting bodycon midi dress can make for a truly glamorous evening look. If you’ll be holidaying with your other half, consider your dinner date outfit sorted!
Many people like to play it safe with the trust old little black dress (LBD), but personally, I like to add a pop of colour. This elegant emerald green bodycon midi dress is formal enough for dinner in a restaurant or a night at the theatre, yet casual enough to wear to a local bar too.

I always struggle with what to pack when we go away, I do love the looks you have gone for
Thanks Samantha 🙂 I struggle packing to go away and I think it’s even harder knowing what to pack for a UK staycation; our weather is so temperamental!
These are some lovely staycation ideas, I love a good floaty top it can hopefully make you feel a bit cooler than something that clings as well.
Me too and white is a good colour to go for when it’s hot!
I love the outfits you chose. The green is my favourite. I also like to add a splash of colour every so often. The green is lovely.
Thank you Melanie. So kind of you <3 I love the green dress too.
Such cute looks! And we’re all about comfort nowadays. These are perfect outfits for comfy jaunts around town!
Thanks Jennifer! I think so too.
I love floaty tops for staycations as they don’t get too hot, and you can’t go wrong with some loungewear esp as this country isn’t usually this warm. Some lovely things you picked out x
I agree – always pays to pack a light, floaty top and white is great whether it’s scorching hot, or a little cooler. Definitely! Thanks Rhian x
