Thinking about catching some winter sun this year? As summers draws to a close and the nights begin to get darker, many of us are now looking to escape the cooler temperatures of the British Isles for a spot of winter sun. Not only is it lovely to be able to bask in golden sunshine at this time of year, but it can also be much cheaper, quieter and easier to holiday during the off-peak season.

Here are a few essentials to consider adding to your suitcase if you’re thinking of taking a winter sun holiday this year.
What to pack for a Winter sun holiday
Suncream
The hot weather may be gone but it is still important that you protect yourself from the sun no matter where you’re headed. Suncream is an essential for your winter vacation, so make sure you’ve got some with you and that you’re applying it every day.
Down jacket
A good down jacket is the first line of defence against the harsh winter conditions and it will be particularly important in cold places and ski-ing destinations. Ideally, this will also be a jacket which is waterproof and has a hood with some kind of insulating material.
Thermals
Thermals are highly effective at keeping you warm, as they trap your body heat and protect your skin from the cold. They’ll be particularly important for cold destinations, but it always pays to invest in quality clothing to keep you warm.
Scarf, gloves & hat
A scarf, gloves and hat are essential during the winter as they can help to protect your exposed skin from the cold. Invest in a good scarf, gloves and beanie and they’ll last you a lifetime, while also helping you to stay stylish throughout the winter months.
Sturdy footwear
The winter can be wet, slippery and hard to manage on foot. You’ll find it much easier to manage if you wear sturdy footwear with a strong grip to prevent you from slipping, while also keeping your feet warm and dry. This is particularly important if you’ll be going somewhere that’s likely to be icy and/or snowy.

Lip balm
Chapped lips can be painful and uncomfortable – the last thing you’ll want to deal with while on your holiday. Lip balm can help to restore moisture to your lips and protect them from the elements.
Thermos flask
There’s nothing quite like a nice hot beverage on a winter holiday and a good thermos flask will help to keep your beverage warm for longer.
These are just a few of the items you’ll need to pack into your suitcase if you’re planning on taking a winter holiday this year. Winter is a great time of your for a holiday as places are often quieter and cheaper, but you’ll need to ensure you’ve got everything you need for a fun, comfortable and safe holiday.
