Steam cleaning has been growing increasingly popular in recent years, largely in thanks to its environmental friendliness and overall effectiveness. Given the many benefits that steam offers, this is hardly a surprise.

Many people invest in a steam machine because they produce hot, deep-cleaning steam with low water content that naturally cleans, disinfects and restores any surface in your home or work – without the use of soap or harmful chemicals, or the need to pay for expensive deep cleaning services.

So, with this in mind, what kind of home surfaces is steam cleaning useful for?

Cleaning the oven with steam

Cleaning the oven is one of our most hated kitchen chores, due to the grease and other contaminants that tend to build-up over time. Fat sticks to internal surfaces during cooking, so for those who like to cook often, it’s almost impossible to avoid this problem. In order for your oven to last longer, while maintaining cleanliness, it’s necessary to periodically remove this fat.

Steam cleaning, or hydrolysis cleaning, presents a simple way to remove grease from the inside of the oven without resorting to aggressive household chemicals. However, it’s important to bear in mind that this method doesn’t guarantee a complete cleansing of fat. Instead, steam cleaning only facilitates subsequent washing.

In order to clean your oven in this way, all you need to do is to pour water is into the pan along with a small amount of cleaning agent. After that, the device door is closed and the temperature is set at a level of 90-190°C. Water begins to turn into steam, which will eliminate fat. This kind of steam cleaning is best carried out while the oven is still slightly hot (although you’ll need to take care not to burn yourself).

Steam carpet cleaning

Be careful when cleaning carpets with a conventional steam cleaner! The moisture released by the steam cleaner can damage sensitive fibres or loosen the adhesive in carpets. If the carpet is made of natural materials, it can even shrink during drying if it gets too moist.

Before a carpet is exposed to steam, it’s advisable to follow the manufacturer’s instructions or at least test the effect of the steam machine on a hidden area of the carpet. However, there are fewer problems when removing individual stains with the steam cleaner, at least if the carpet is colour-fast and not made of wool (which can become matted by the damp heat).

Professional steam carpet cleaning services

In general, cleaning with steam guarantees an amazing result because the heat kills mites and other pathogens. Better than cleaning with a conventional steam cleaner, however, is the use of high-quality steam vacuums, whereby the steam output can be regulated. High-quality steam vacuums also function as dry vacuum cleaners.

During professional carpet steam cleaning, the water residues generated during steam treatment can be sucked up immediately so that they don’t damage the carpet fibres. In addition to the cleaning instructions for the carpet, the instructions for the steam cleaner should also be observed in order to select the correct temperature and amount of steam. For that reason, in order not to damage your carpet, it’s always better to leave carpet steam cleaning to the professionals.

Steam Carpet Cleaning and Coping with Dust Mites

Anyone suffering with a dust allergy will be especially grateful for hot water extraction carpet cleaning. The house dust mite feels most comfortable in carpets, more specifically in carpet fibres. Here, they can spread and reproduce.

If you vacuum the carpet with a normal bag vacuum cleaner, you’ll ultimately achieve exactly the opposite of what you want. The bag vacuum cleaner partly sucks in the mite droppings, including dust, but the dirt that is sucked in is not completely filtered out by the installed filters. Instead, it’s partly released back into the room air.

Regular vacuum cleaners don’t remove house dust or mite droppings, instead only serving to spread it throughout the air. For people with allergies to house dust, this can be a real nightmare. You can achieve significantly better results when cleaning carpets with a steam cleaner.

The hot steam kills most of the mites, while the dust and mite droppings are sucked in through the vacuum cleaner and filtered in the water. This gives gives significantly better results than a normal vacuum cleaner filter, as the dust is completely filtered out. Thanks to steam carpet cleaning, you’ll be able to breathe freely again!
