Keen to explore the world, yet not sure how you’ll make a living in the process? The idea of packing in your job and leaving your home to build a new life abroad, all while trying to make ends meet, can seem a little daunting at first.
Don’t give up on your dreams just yet, though; there are actually a number of different ways to make money while travelling; often, it’s simply a case of finding what works best for you.

Work remotely
The most obvious way to earn money while travelling is simply to keep working, albeit remotely. If you’re already familiar with working from home, you’ll probably adapt well to working remotely anywhere in the world. This is a fairly reliable, secure way to make money while on the road and, thanks to increasing workplace and employer flexibility, remote working is currently on the rise.
However, there are downfalls of remote working too; your regular working hours might take some getting used to, for example, especially if you’ll be travelling to a new time zone, or if you need to be available to service customers or communicate with colleagues based within different time zones.
To make remote working a success for you, ensure you’ve got a stable WiFi connection, or enough mobile data to cover you while you’ll be working away from home. And, if you’re prone to getting confused with timings when travelling through different time zones, a good time zone converter can help you avoid misscheduled meetings.
Launch a business
Another option for those looking to find work abroad, is to launch a new business. If you’re going to be staying in a particular destination for a while and you already have a business, you might benefit from looking into how to expand your business using self-storage. Or, if you’re starting up from scratch, you consider sticking to an online-only set up for now; this wa, you can continue building up your business with minimum fuss as you travel around, while also giving you plenty of time in which to enjoy your new surroundings, too.
Be sure to explore tax implications of running a business abroad, even if you’re already registered back home; you don’t want to get caught out when your tax bill comes!
Become a blogger
If you’re not keen on working remotely for an employer, yet not ready to take the plunge and set up a brand new business, you could always become a blogger. Blogging is one of an enjoyable pastime which can also generate a decent earning.
First, however, you’ve got to establish a loyal audience. This certainly isn’t the easiest thing to do – especially if you’re new to the world of social media and blogging – but it’s essential if you want people to engage and interact genuinely with your content.
If you’re traveling around the world, you might enjoy writing and posting about your adventures or, alternatively, you could focus on a different passion or hobby.
While this brief list by no means represents the real diversity of industries and careers you could explore if you choose to travel abroad to work, hopefully, after reading this, you’ll be feeling more inspired about what kinds of roles you could find paid work in while travelling away from home.
