As editor of a food and travel blog, there’s nothing I enjoy more than getting away and trying new things. While that’s not an option right now – and rightly so – we can actually use this time to reflect on past holidays and turn out attention to trip planning for the future.
Although the local supermarket might be the furthest we stray physically, our minds can still wander. Never before have we had such an opportunity to review where we are, where we’ve been and where we want to go.
Here’s how to use your new-found spare time to focus on trip planning:

4 reasons why now is an ideal time for trip planning
You can reflect on past experiences
It’s often said that we travel with our minds, not our bodies. The adventures we undertake while travelling live on in mental images, photographs and souvenirs. Taking time to reflect on past holidays and time spent with loved ones could be just the pick-me-up you’re looking for!
Dig out your old photo albums and trawl through those archives – who knows what stories are waiting to be rediscovered!
You may have new priorities
While looking back on your travel memories, you may come to realise that your attitude to travel has shifted. For example, perhaps your perfect idea of a holiday may once have involved an all-inclusive resort and guaranteed sunshine, but maybe now you’re seeking to step outside your comfort zone and enjoy new experiences.
Alternatively, your preferences could move in the other direction. In this case, regular time away in a Park Holidays holiday home could offer the more subtle change of pace you’re looking for.
You can gain inspiration from virtual tours
Being locked up indoors doesn’t have to stop you from going on adventures or escaping your mundane routines. From reading new books and watching different kinds of movies to experimenting with home cooking and sprucing up the garden, there are lots of ways to enjoy a break from the norm; you just need to look for them.
You could even check out some of the many virtual destination tours available online and see if it leaves you feeling inspired to visit somewhere new. Ask friends and family members to share stories of their favourite experiences too; you just might pick up some inspiration!
You can update your bucket list
Your holiday bucket list should be a fluid concept that you tweak as your tastes and situation evolve. Now you have the time to conduct a more thorough review, add or remove what no longer applies, and even prioritise the order you see and do things.
These don’t necessarily have to be far-flung escapades, either. More and more of us are enjoying staycations. Are there parts of your home county you’re yet to explore, or certain people you want to go with? Being a tourist in your local area can be a real eye-opener!

Plan your next trip
With a clearer picture of the holidays you’ve enjoyed in the past and what you want to experience in the future, it’s the ideal time to begin planning what’s next.
You might not be able to book specific dates just yet – but getting ahead means you’ll be ready to book right away once everything is back to normal. And for now? Just sit back and relax…
