The French Riviera, or the so-called Azure Coast, has been a popular holiday destination since as far back as the 18th century. Beginning life as a luxury resort for the upper class, it’s stayed true to its root and conserved its luxurious reputation to this day.

Undoubtedly, this has to be one of the leading destinations in the Mediterranean, attracting thousands of visitors from all over the world year-on-year. However, a holiday or vacation on the French Riviera isn’t jut like taking any old trip. In order to get the most out of it, you’ll need to spend time doing your research and plan your trip well in advance.

Travel in style

If you really want to experience the French Riviera in all its glory, you’ll need a form of transport. As the region stretches all the way from Saint-Tropez to the France-Italy border, walking or cycling isn’t the best way to get around (although there are some beautiful hiking trails you can follow). While many tourists simply rent a car, there is another form of transport that often makes for a better – not to mention, classier – way to explore the French Riviera.

A charter yacht is actually one of the best ways to travel around the Azure Coast. Nothing screams French Riviera as much as a trip on a charter yacht with a reputable local company like Yacht In (unless you’re lucky enough to own your own yacht, of course!)

Know where you’re going

You don’t just show up to the French Riviera. Advance planning is a must! With numerous events and festivals taking place in different towns along the coast throughout the year, it pays to check on what’ll be happening during your visit, so you can make a note of any events you’re keen to get to.

Consider your holiday wardrobe

Don’t forget to consider your holiday wardrobe too! Different outfits and schedules will be needed for the Cannes Film Festival as opposed to the Formula One Grand Prix, for example. It all depends on your preference, because this coast has something to offer to everyone – from art and music, to sport.

If you’ll be chartering a yacht, aim to pack lightweight, breathable clothing which you’ll feel comfortable wearing, even on a hot day. Pair linen clothes with a chic hat and large glasses for chic summer vibes. White and beige colours will be your favourite companion for the French summer. Bring some accessories you can use to freshen up similar outfit combinations, especially if you’ll be travelling in summer. You’ll want to keep a simple base with neutral colours, and then add focus points.
