Discover how to find cheap airport parking and save on the cost of your next holiday abroad.

Booking a holiday is always an exciting moment; the thought of escaping the UK on an exotic getaway abroad is an instant mood-booster.

Undeniably, however, one of the least enjoyable parts of going on holiday overseas, is getting to the airport. While travelling by bus, coach or train can be stressful – especially if your journey is delayed – travelling by car is more convenient, yet it means having to factor in the excessive cost of airport parking.

If you’ve ever used airport parking, you’ll know exactly how expensive it can be. And, I’m not about to wave a magic wand and conjure up rates on par with public transport fares.

However, there are ways to lower the cost of airport parking to more affordable levels. Here are a few pointers to help you to save a few pounds.

4 ways to cut the cost of airport parking

Use an airport parking comparison website

Using a comparison website is a great way to save on the cost of airport parking, and compare the cost – and benefits – of different levels of cover – from shuttle parking (at the lower end of the scale), to park and hotel package options (the most expensive choice).

Consider off-site parking

While designated airport parking is always the most convenient option, you can often save considerably on airport parking, simply by parking a slight distance away from the airport.

Off-site airport parking is often far cheaper than parking at the airport itself; you just need to factor in some extra time to get to the terminal.

Book in advance

This is the most well-known tip when it comes to searching for cheap airport parking, as it is when it comes to most travel expenses, including public transport and hotel bookings.

Booking in advance will help you to save considerably on the cost of parking your car at the airport, enabling you to access exclusive rates and savings.

Many airports offer discounts when booking airport parking online, compared to paying at the airport. According to Birmingham Airport, passengers could save as much as 60% by booking in advance, as opposed to simply paying for parking on the day.

Check cancellation costs

While booking in advance helps to secure cheap airport parking, be sure to check whether you can amend the booking in the event that your flight schedule changes. If the terms and conditions don’t allow this, you could end up forking out more than you need to for cancellation fees and/or additional bookings.

When using the airport parking at Bristol Airport, for example, there is a £5 fee if the booking is cancelled or amended within 48 hours of your designated arrival time. However, other airports allow cancellation free of charge up to an hour beforehand.
