How long will it take me to drive there?
Perhaps the first question you should ask yourself before booking last minute UK caravan holidays, is “How long is it going to take me to get there?”
You might’ve managed to hunt down the cheapest caravan holiday on the internet, but if it’s going to take you hours to drive there, you could end up paying a fortune in fuel costs. Use a route planner to check the distance between your home, and any caravan sites you’re thinking of staying at. Make sure that the journey time is reasonable, and that any associated fuel costs will be affordable.
And, before you head off, always check your vehicle is road trip-ready.
How far is the caravan site from local amenities and attractions?
When you spot a last minute UK caravan holiday deal, it can be tempting to snap it up straight away.
Before you part with your hard-earned cash, however, consider the location of the caravan site. It’s pointless booking a cheap caravan holiday if you’ll have to drive miles to the nearest shops or attractions, for example. Ensure your preferred caravan site is located reasonably close to necessary amenities, and any local attractions you’ll be visiting during your stay.
This is especially important to consider if you’ll be travelling with anyone who has mobility issues, as they may not be able to walk long distances. In this case, always check how near your caravan will be to on-site facilities and/or the beach, too.
Will you need to pay an additional fee to access on-site facilities?
There’s nothing worse than thinking you’ve found yourself an excellent last minute UK caravan holiday deal, only to discover you’ll have to fork out for extras once you arrive.
When booking your caravan holiday, always check whether you’ll need to pay an additional fee to purchase wristbands or access to on-site facilities, like the clubhouse; the swimming pool; and the children’s entertainment offering, for example. Many caravan sites charge extra for this and, it’s not the end of the world if you do need to put your hand into your pocket. However, it always pays to consider all the hidden travel costs before booking your caravan holiday, just to ensure it’ll be within your budget.
Can I bring my dog with me?
If you’ll be travelling with a canine companion, be sure to ask whether your chosen caravan site; and the specific caravan you’ll be booking, is dog-friendly. Many caravan sites will mention this on their websites, but you may need to call directly to confirm this.
Usually, you’ll be required to pay a supplement in order for your dog/s to stay in your caravan with you.
Will there be enough space for everyone?
While this may sound like plain common sense, you should always check that your preferred caravan is big enough to accommodate your entire group, before booking last minute UK caravan holidays.
In the world of caravans, the term “berth” refers to the number of designated sleeping areas inside a particular caravan. A 2-berth caravan sleeps two people, a 3-berth caravan sleep three people, a 4-berth caravan sleeps four people, and so on. It’s not rocket science.
Besides considering whether everyone will have enough space in which to sleep comfortably, however, you should also think about whether you’ll all have enough space in which to move around, and live in the caravan, day-to-day. If you’ll be travelling with a particularly large group, or with any disabled guests, for example, you may wish to book a bigger caravan, or opt for a more accessible caravan.
