Do you travel with food in mind?
Nowadays, food is more central to the travel experience than ever. For many of us, travelling is no longer just about visiting new countries to see all the must-see sights and landmarks. Travel has become an opportunity for us to discover different cultures through local cuisine. Even when we cannot physically travel in person, we can still travel by plate, offering a vital form of escapism for many travel enthusiasts like myself.
The UK is a popular destination for many different reasons and, for us Brits, as we can’t travel very freely this year, it may be the best place we could possibly choose to spend our holidays. You could book into a fancy city hotel, opt for a seaside B&B, stay in a caravan or perhaps even hire a car or van and go on a road trip.
If you’ll be sleeping in your car, it pays to consider taking a rooftop tent with you. I’d never heard of these until I came across best rooftop tent Australia, but now I can’t imagine travelling by car without one. It’s comfortable, elevated from the ground, waterproof and high-quality.
Now, without further ado, here are five foodie destinations in the UK to add to your staycation bucket list, whether you’re looking to capture some irresistible food shots for your Instagram page, or perhaps just looking to taste the best of what the British Isles has to offer.
David Bann – Edinburgh, Scotland
Located in Edinburgh, Scotland – a trending culinary travel destination for 2024 – this vegetarian restaurant places close attention to creating a pleasant dining atmosphere, with minimalist design. If you don’t like pretentious restaurants full of decorative elements that distract your attention, David Bann is the perfect choice for you.
The prices are fairly affordable and the quality of food they serve is outstanding. You only have to check the reviews on TripAdvisor to see what I mean.
The Pig – Central London
If you’re in central London, you must take the time to drive to this place. However, The Pig isn’t just one single restaurant, but a network of restaurants in rural areas throughout England, each serving local, seasonal produce.
Moreover, the Pig offers far more than just an opportunity to taste amazing food. You can book an apartment there and stay for as long as you need.
The Pig at Bridge Place is an old red-brick building retaining an atmosphere of the past: large fireplaces, spiral stairways, rooms with wooden floors, and other details that make this atmosphere as comfortable as possible. What more could you want for a memorable stay in central London?
Black Prince – Woodstock, Oxfordshire
Visiting England without visiting a pub is a waste of time and money.
The Black Prince is a pub located in Woodstock, Oxfordshire – an area famous for its unique pubs, drawing visitors from all over England to its many pubs, clubs, bars and restaurants.
Many pubs in the UK try to recreate the atmosphere of past centuries and The Black Prince is no exception. When you sit in this pub, you’ll delve into the 16th century, all while admiring the breath-taking views of the Glyme River and Blenheim Palace.

Leeds Kirkgate Market
The largest covered market in Europe, Leeds Kirksgate Market features no less than 800 stalls, between them attracting thousands of visitors every year.
When you get peckish, simply take your pick from hundreds of authentic local food stalls selling all kinds of global cuisine.
Don’t leave without purchasing some local souvenirs, quirky clothing and anything else that catches your eye. Not all markets are worth visiting, but this one is an obligatory stop in your trip!
Hush Heath Estate – Kent, England
England may not traditionally be associated with wine-making, but the UK is actually home to a growing number of successful vineyards and wineries.
Among them is Hush Heath Estate in Kent, England, established in 2002. It successfully grows several different grape varieties and produces world-famous wine. For example, Balfour Brut Rose is exported to many European countries where people buy and enjoy drinking it. Besides tasting this amazing wine, you’ll also be able to try many different snacks and local dishes while visiting the estate. A must for any wine lover!

Coastal Foraging – Carmarthenshire, Wales
Adore seafood? Try coastal foraging in Carmarthenshire, Wales. Search for seafood, fish and edible coastal plants together with an experienced guide. You’ll even get a chance to cook up a delicious feast together using your foraged ingredients!
Take your pick from three different courses according to what you want to forage for.
